She said: “On arriving back from Lincolnshire late on Sunday night there was a palpable sense of menace in Brixton.

“I was awoken a couple of hours later by circling police helicopters, but as this is not that unusual I rolled over back to sleep.

“However, I left for work on Monday morning to absolute carnage - a war zone.”

Shona said the shopping areas of Brixton were absolutely devastated with no businesses, big or small, spared.

She said: “Not one shop front had been spared from the big commercial companies to local traders. All the windows were smashed and shops had been looted.”

Shona is certain the carnage was not the work of looters local to the area.

She explained: “It was apparent, even from this seemingly isolated incident, that these looters would not be local residents as no one would destroy their friends’ and neighbours’ livelihoods.

“The events of Monday night, only serve to accentuate that. This is the work of organised thugs intent on inciting violence and unrest. I arrived back to Brixton tube latish on Monday night and was told to run by riot police as a gang was pushing down Brixton Hill.”
