A WIFE returned home from shopping to find her husband had slipped and suffered serious head injuries.
John Lodge, 63, of North Parade, Grantham, had been working around the house when he slipped and fell.
His wife, Mary Lodge, arrived back from shopping in Nottingham to find her husband on the floor of their garage with a head wound.
Mr Lodge was taken to the Queens Medical Centre but died four days later.
Colin Allerston, coroner’s officer, filed a report of the incident. He said there had been a suggestion Mr Lodge had fallen from a ladder but there was no evidence to support this.
The inquest heard how Mary had gone shopping at 10am, with her husband in fine health. He had also been seen in two shops in town in the early afternoon.
Assistant Deputy Coroner Paul Smith recorded a verdict of accidental death. There was no evidence of Mr Lodge suffering any other “natural event” prior to the accident.
He said: “The injuries sustained by Mr Lodge came as a consequence of a trip or stumble.”
