Kesteven and Grantham Girls School became the Dunlop National Schools Under-19 table tennis champions for the third successive year in March 1989.

They took the title at Matlock in a three-way final.

However, it did not begin well for the defending champions, who were trailing 0-3 in their opening game against Worcester Sixth Form College before fighting back to draw the match 4-4.

It meant that the winners of the final game between the Grantham girls and Peniei Academy from Essex, who had also drawn 4-4 with Worcester, would be the champions.

The KGGS team easily overcame Peniei 7-1 to take the title and complete a hat-trick of championships.

The victorious team, pictured, were, from left - Jeanette Baxter, Michelle Jackson, captain Hayley Sims, Catherine May, Catherine Challis and Sarah-Kate Jackson.
