Popular springer spaniel and demonstration dog of charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, Merlin, will be taking his final flight as the charity’s ambassador as he takes part in the production of a special 2013 calendar.

The calendar is a project of ‘Merlin’s Mission’, a campaign to raise £30,000 for the charity during this their 30th anniversary year, and features Merlin alongside iconic aircraft from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The charity was awarded a grant of £1,155 by Mars in the Community towards the costs of the production of the calendar. The programme supports projects that focus on healthy active lifestyles, the environment and pet welfare.

Local area fund-raiser Denise Taylor said: “The grant from Mars in the Community programme has meant that the dream of being able to produce a truly superb and high quality calendar has become a reality.

“It costs £7,500 to train a dog for an adult, and over £10,000 to train a dog for a child – so the money that Merlin and his crew have been raising really will make a difference to the lives of deaf children and adults.

“We are so grateful to Mars in the Community, RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and local printers Warners of Bourne, for making the calendar a reality and a wonderful finale to Merlin’s Mission year.”

Calenders cost £6 with all proceeds going to the charity. For more information or to purchase a calendar visit www.merlinsmission.org
