A BOTTESFORD pensioner who suffers from dementia and went missing at the weekend survived a night lying in a freezing ditch.
Eric Mayfield, 85, of Granby Drive, Bottesford, was reported missing by his carers on Friday morning (Dec 17).
A police helicopter was called out to help with the search for Mr Mayfield.
Mr Mayfield, who has ties to the Grantham area, survived a night in temperatures of -7 degrees celsius before being found by a member of the public lying beside a road just outside Bottesford on Saturday (Dec 18). He has been taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment.
Insp Kim Mistry of Leicestershire Constabulary said: “We are pleased that Mr Mayfield has been found and I want to thank everyone including the local community and the media for their support.”
