A DRIVER apologised for his “stupid actions” after being caught drink-driving on the A52 near Grantham.

Edward Reid, 53, admitted drink driving after his driving was spotted by two off-duty special constables at Mill Lane.

Reid, of Northfield Road, Quarrington, Sleaford, failed a roadside breath test before blowing 54 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Mr Ellis, defending Reid, said: “He has been nothing short of devastated to find he was over the limit.

“He will lose his licence and that will cause problems with his work.”

Reid, a father-of-four, has given up alcohol as a result of the incident, said Mr Ellis.

Reid said: “I would just like to apologise for my stupid actions.”

Reid was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £500. He must also pay costs of £85 and a £15 surcharge.

Chair of magistrates Kevin Moody said: “We kept to the bare minimum as you are a man of previous good character who has not troubled the court before.”
