MR Alan Bellamy, of Cold Harbour Lane, Grantham, has died in Lincoln County Hospital. He was 77.

Born in Melton Mowbray, he was one of 11 children and spent most of his childhood at Tippings Lodge, Croxton Kerrial and attended Bottesford School.

In 1960 he married Ann and they made their home in Grantham. He was father to Stephen and Colin, grandfather to Carly, Ian, Ryan, Jake, Lewis and Sarah and great-grandfather to Polly.

At the age of 16 he joined Chandlers of Grantham, where he served his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer. Aged 21 he served his National Service, returning to Chandlers aged 23 to continue as an agricultural engineer. He remained there until he was 31. Mr Bellamy then began work at Aveling Barford as a mechanical engineer and remained there for many years, continuing with Wordsworth Holdings, until his retirement. He made some true and loyal friends throughout his working life.

Mr Bellamy was a very keen motorsport fan. In his early days he enjoyed motorcycling and he visited the Isle of Man TT Races on several occasions with his brothers and friends. He was also a keen gardener, enjoying growing his own fruit and vegetables on a nearby allotment.

He and his wife Ann enjoyed ballroom and Latin dancing at the George Croft School of Dancing, where they achieved a high standard of dancing and won many medals over the years they participated. In later life he enjoyed watching and listening to all kinds of sports covered by television and radio.
