Mr Alan Holmes, of Earlesfield Lane, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 79.

Mr Alan Holmes, of Earlesfield Lane, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 79.

Born in Grantham, he was the son of the late Mr and Mrs A. Holmes, of Harrowby Lane. He was brother to the late Alf, Lil, Agnes, Ruth and Derek and is survived by his brothers Donald and Dennis.

Mr Holmes was father to Christopher and David and father-in-law to Corrina.

His National Service was completed in Egypt. He worked for Bjorlows tanning factory and then as a plasterer’s labourer.

In later life he was a carer for his wife, Dorothy, who has predeceased him.

Mr Holmes enjoyed playing snooker and had done so for over 50 years. He liked to walk his dog and loved to watch wrestling on the television (mostly Big Daddy). He loved to play bingo at the Cree Centre and Vacu-Lug Social Club and also enjoyed a flutter on the horses and lottery.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Robert Holland. Burial followed in Grantham cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
