MR Albert William Bass, of Harlaxton Road, Grantham, has died in Avery Lodge Care Home, Grantham. He was 85.

Born in Croxton Kerrial, he was the only son to Frank and Alice Bass, and brother to Doreen.

He married Nan in 1948 in Foston and had three daughters, June, Sue and Hazel. He was Granddad to Melanie, Andrea, Greg, Keri and great-grandfather to Daniel, Sophie, Harry, Joanie, Essie and Cam.

Mr Bass worked for Stewart and Lloyds Iron Ore Quarries after leaving school, starting as a clerk. By the time he retired at 57, he had worked his way up to Personnel Manager.

His first love was gardening and he made sure his gardens had lots of colour. He was also treasurer of Grantham Model Railway Society for many years.

Mr Bass also enjoyed travelling around the UK, especially Scotland, Yorkshire and the south coast.

Robert Holland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium.

Family mourners included: Nan Bass, June and Jim Ross, Sue and Pat Rowsell, Hazel Maltby, Doreen Bass, Melanie Ross, Hugo Eaglesfield, Andrea and Mark Brown, Greg and Laura Rowsell, Keri Rowsell, Matt Robinson, Daniel Ross-Stringer, Sophie Brown, Ann and Keith Styles, Patricia and Michael Kirk, Gareth Kirk, Amber Liddle and Bryan Walker.

Other mourners included: Maureen Dawson, Gill Hales, Kate Riches, Jen Day, Joan Draper, Margaret Raven, Len and Pat Scoffins, Steve Trowsdale, Ron Selby, Mr and Mrs Berridge, Phil Mason, Dave Maltby, Helen Brown, Robyn Cummins, Kerry Angeloni, Rosemary Coleman, Elaine Newcombe, Susan Brown, Mrs S. Palmer, Keith Lea, Rita Lea, Pat Taylor, Alan Hare, Patricia Hare, Enid and Maurice Lowe, Andrew Bryne, Gill Mallett and Georgina Mallett.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.

Donations were received for Avery Lodge Amenities Fund.
