MR Bernard Sidney Watkinson, of Brick Kiln Place, Grantham, has died at home. He was 79.

He was born in Grantham in 1932, the son of Walter and Rose. He had two brothers, Arthur and Peter, and two sisters, Lil and Anne.

Mr Watkinson has nine grandchildren, Kirsty, Robyn, Georgia, Jessica, Elizabeth, Heather, Samantha, Louise and Kelly.

After leaving school he attended Grantham College, where he learned the trade of bricklaying before taking up employment with Eatches Builders.

He then moved on to Parsons Coal Merchants, but later became a self-employed builder, continuing until his retirement.

Mr Watkinson loved to socialise with his family and friends, including his long-term friend, Jack Doyle, and the “Sheila’s Wheels” girls from Asda.

He also knew Mrs Barnett for many years and although very ill, he visited her on a regular basis.

Robert Holland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.

Family mourners included: Elaine Watkinson, Julie Watkinson, Steven Watkinson, Shirley Watkinson, Elizabeth Frost, Jessica Heaney, Georgia Heaney, Mark Heaney, Tim Leeson, Kirsty Leeson and Robyn Leeson.

Other mourners included: Paula Dickenson, Peta McAuliffe, Ann Gilbert, Audrey Dodwell, Mr and Mrs Heaney, Mandy Aldous, Steve Raven, Tony and Vera Barnett, Jack Doyle, Shirley Saunders, Tony Winfield, Anne Pakey, Alan Hunt, Mr and Mrs Charlesworth, Trish Green, and Annette Lofthouse.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
