MR John Denis Watson, of Hedgefield Road, Barrowby, has died in Lincoln County Hospital. He was 80.

Born in Colsterworth, he was the eldest of three brothers, and the son of Ron and Rene Watson.

He was married to June for 56 years and they had three children, Keith, Tracy and Chris, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr Watson began work aged 14 at the opencast mines in Colsterworth, as an apprentice electrician. His National Service was spent in the Army with the REME. He returned to work in Colsterworth and this was followed by him working underground at Easton. When the mine closed he worked as an electrical contractor for over 25 years.

In his younger days Mr Watson played football, cricket and darts. He was a member of Stoke Rochford Golf Club for many years and past captain. He also enjoyed horse racing, especially going to Cheltenham with his friends.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Robert Holland.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.

Donations were received for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
