MR Raymond Walton (Sam), of Claypole Lane, Dry Doddington, has died in St Edmunds Nursing Home, Grantham. He was 77.

Born in Foston, in December 1934, he was the son of John and Molly Walton and youngest brother to John and Joan.

He attended Foston village school, followed by Long Bennington and Huntingtower schools.

He married Jenny in 1982 and became step-dad to John, Pete, David and Ian. He was the loving granddad of Paul, Claire, Lucy, Olivia, Megan, Charlotte and Chloe.

Mr Walton worked on a farm after leaving school until the age of 17, when he joined the Royal Air Force. After his service in the RAF he worked at Bellrock Quarry, from where he was made redundant. He then worked on the land. He had also been employed erecting farm buildings and had worked at a pine factory.

His interests included gardening, woodwork, and walking and cycling in the countryside.

In his younger days he played cricket. He also enjoyed a game of darts and dominoes and a pint at his local pub. He and his wife liked to take coach tour holidays. He loved his weekly game of bowls at the village hall and a pint after with the “old lads”.
