MR Stanley Charles Ison, of Emminson Way, Great Gonerby, has died in Newton House Nursing Home, Grantham. He was 87.
He was born in St Mary, London, in 1924 and at the age of three he moved with his family to Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. The family moved to Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, when he was 13.
He met Joy in Wisbech and they were married in 1961. They had three children, Denzil, Cheryl and Adrian, before moving to Grantham in 1964, where they settled.
Mr Ison began work at the age of 14 in Whittlesey Brick Factory. He later became manager at Wisbech Greyhound Track, before taking employment at Knowles Transport as a driver. On his move to Grantham he worked as a driver for the Co-op until retiring aged 65. Three years later he returned to the Co-op as a funeral/wedding driver, finally retiring when he was 80.
Mr Ison was a keen coarse fisherman on the “Dog and Doublet” (River Nene) just outside Peterborough and Whittlesey. In later years he loved horse racing, caravanning, travelling around the UK and abroad to various horse racing venues.
After his retirement he and Joy travelled around the world for nine months, visiting relatives in Cyprus and Australia.
The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by the Rev June Rowland.

Funeral arrangements were by Co-operative Funeralcare, Bridge End Road, Grantham.
