MR Tony Robinson, of High Meadow, Grantham, has died in Newton House Nursing Home, Barrowby Road, Grantham. He was 68.

Born in Scunthorpe, he was the eldest son of Thomas and Doris Robinson. At the age of two he moved with his family to Holbeach, Lincolnshire, His school days were spent in the town and his final year was spent at the newly-opened George Farmers School.

Mr Robinson started work at the Irnham estate, on forestry.

He met and married Ann, and they moved to Grantham, where he worked for a company building cattle wagons, until it moved from the town. He then worked at Vacu-Lug until he fell and hurt his back. His return to work was at Aveling Barford until its closure. He then moved to Grantham Engineering, where he stayed until the age of 60. His final employment was part-time at Belton Garden Centre.

Mr Robinson played football for Vacu-Lug and also darts for the Spotted Cow public house. Later he decided to try bowling, joining the Vacu-Lug team and he enjoyed the sport until ill health prevented him playing.

He loved to spend time in his greenhouse and garden, growing plants and making bird boxes and bridges to go over his fish pond.

Mr Robinson also liked to spend time with his grandsons, playing football and making wooden aeroplanes.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by the Rev Nicky Marshall.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
