MRS Ethel Ellerby, of Greenacres, Barrowby, has died in St Edmunds Nursing Home, Grantham. She was 91.
Born in Ryhope, County Durham, she was one of six children, having three elder sisters and one brother and a younger brother. Her father was a miner, who served in both world wars.
At the age of 14 she left school to work at the Mantle and Gown Company in Sunderland, a dress shop which was turned into a factory, making khaki shirts and epaulettes for the soldiers.
When she was 21 she was given the choice of joining the forces or moving to Grantham to work at BMARC, and she chose the latter.
Mrs Ellerby enjoyed travelling at home or abroad and visited New Zealand on four occasions with her late husband, Joe, to see their youngest daughter, Jean and two grandchildren.
She enjoyed Scottish dancing with her griends and also old time dancing at BMARC.
Her other interests included gardening, watching tennis and snooker on television, reading and all kinds of music.
The Rev June Rowland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel. Burial followed in Grantham cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
Donations for the National Osteoporosis Society amount to £250 to date.
