MRS Hettie Elizabeth Sykes, of Belton Lodge Nursing Home, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. She was 96.
Mrs Sykes was born in East Peckham, near Tonbridge, Kent. She worked in service until her marriage to Wilfred Sykes (Bill) and then became a housewife. They had two daughters, Rosemary and Lesley. They lived in Rochester, Kent, during the Second World War, then moved to Whitstable, where they stayed until 1948 when they moved to Grantham. A move to Ingoldsby then followed before they returned to Grantham, living in Dysart Road, where Mrs Sykes remained until her move to Belton Lodge Nursing Home. Mrs Sykes’ interests included knitting, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She liked to make jam and Christmas puddings for the family.
Robert Holland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
Family mourners included: Rosemary and Peter Shepherd, Lesley and Peter Nevitt, Paula and Andrew Whitfield and Emma Nevitt. Simon and Andrea Shepherd were unable to attend.

Evans, Janet Osborne and Sandra Jennings.
Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
Donations were received for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
