MRS Irene Baxter, of Caythorpe, has died in Lincoln County Hospital. She was 88.
She was born into a mining family at Castleford, West Yorkshire, and was the eldest daughter of Edwin and Sarah Colley and sister to Jean and John.
In 1947 she married James Baxter (Jim), of Caythorpe, and she is survived by their sons, Peter, Paul and Philip.
At the age of 18 she joined the Royal Air Force and worked at RAF Syerston and RAF Cranwell during the Second World War.
When the children were older she shared the job of caretaker of Caythorpe Primary School with her husband.
Her main interest was caring for her family. She was a keen reader and puzzler, which kept her mind sharp. In her younger days she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing bingo.
The Rev Lesley Taylor conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
Family mourners included: Paul Baxter, Philip Baxter, Jean Addy, David Addy, Chris Addy, Reg and Jean Baxter, Janet Lewis, Hannah Lewis, Rory Lewis, Carol and Neil Clack and Josh Clack.
Other mourners included: Margaret and Maurice Burwell, Gwen Eardley, Steve Endley, Tracey Endley, Dr and Mrs Fraser-Darling, Elspeth Fraser-Darling, Mr and Mrs Harris, Elizabeth Ironmonger, Janet and Roy Jex and Jean and Michael Mawson.
Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
