MRS Madeline Annie Ockwell, of Harrowby Lodge Nursing Home, Harrowby Lane, Grantham, has died there. She was 87.
Born near Cottesmore, Rutland, she was the eldest of three children, and the daughter of Ted and Harriet Coles.
In 1947 she married Barry and went on to have four children, Robin, Mary, Melanie and Jasmine (who died in 1981). She was also the proud grandmother of Jenny and Lorna and great-grandmother of Alex and Monty.
Mrs Ockwell was a primary school teacher and she taught in schools in the Birmingham area, before leaving to have her first two children. She then worked in Rearsby, Leicestershire, for a few years until having more children.
Later she gave home tuition and was a supply teacher in many schools across Leicestershire.
Mrs Ockwell was a keen gardener, a talented artist, and she enjoyed knitting, sewing and bobbin lace-making. She was also a dedicated member of the St Wulfram’s handbell ringing team, enjoying performing in concerts with them around Lincolnshire and on foreign exchange trips.
She and her husband also enjoyed foreign travel and shared many happy holidays around Europe, in Kenya and New Zealand, as well as throughout the United Kingdom.
The Rev Eric Lomax conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.

Wells, Ali Gibb, Roy and Diana Strickland, Brian Strickland, Gerard and Pat Thompson, Gerard Thompson Jnr, Audrey Aitken and Helen Aitken.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
Donations were received for Grantham and District Mencap.
