Over 100,000 square feet of commercial property that has remained vacant for two years is being turned into a business park.
The former site of construction industry suppliers Genie on Trent Road has been bought by developers Grantham Estates, who have big plans for its future.
Managing director of Grantham Estates David Hindmarch said: “We saw the opportunity to buy the site which has very good business units. Externally it looks a bit of a mess, but internally the buildings are in very good order. ”
Comprising of four units measuring approximately 18,000, 20,000, 30,000 and 40,000 square feet, the plan is to turn the plot into a business park.
Moreover after lying empty for two years, Grantham Estates believe it will only take them four or five months to refit the buildings inside, as well as to refurbish the outside with more attractive cladding.
This relatively quick turn-around is aided by the developers already being in talks with potential businesses looking to move to the site.
Mr Hindmarch said: “Despite the recession we already have a number of interested tenants.”
Although it is too early to confirm names, Mr Hindmarch did disclose that they include Grantham-based companies looking to expand.
“We are keen to see Grantham businesses thrive,” he added.
