A new shop and café specialising in loose leaf tea has opened on narrow Westgate and in the George Centre.
Pamela Merryweather decided to open her own tea shop after 20 years as a sales manager at Downtown.
She took the risk of leaving her long-term job and with the help of husband Lance has created the stylish Teaspoon Tea Company offering customers a wide range of teas.
Pamela explained: “I had this idea to do something a bit different. There are lots of coffee places but tea, nobody makes a big deal of it, and it is supposed to be our national drink. We offer coffee too, but it is mainly about the teas.”
These can be purchased as well as enjoyed in store, and Pamela is also a keen baker and offers homemade cakes, scones and biscuits, with plans to serve additional savoury dishes in the future.
Moreover plans to hold events like tea tastings are in the pipeline, while the business is embracing social media with a dedicated Twitter account @tsp_tea.
Husband Lance who has been working at Teaspoon in addition to his full-time job, said: “We had a massive response when we opened, and we want this to continue.”
The couple who have lived in Grantham all their lives, are extremely happy with their new premises in the centre of town, and have praised the George Centre and neighbouring retailers for their support.
Opening hours are 9am-5pm on Monday to Saturday.
