A BRAND new lighting system is set to brighten up the interior of Grantham’s largest church.
Visitors to St Wulfram’s Church recently would be forgiven for thinking they had wandered into a building site, with workmen on top of tower of scaffolding and large ladders.
The workmen, from Grantham-based A J Electrics, were installing ecclesiastical lighting in the nave and chancel, provided by the Friends of St Wulfram’s.
Installation work is now complete, just in time for Christmas.
Jean Parker, from the Friends of St Wulfram’s, said: “The new system takes advantage of modern technology – a much better level of illumination, economical operation, highlighting of special features and a sophisticated computerised control system.
“The new lights will be dedicated by the Archdeacon of Lincoln at 6.30pm on Sunday, February 6, and the system’s versatility will be demonstrated at a ‘Son et Lumière’ at 6.30pm on March 20.
“The many concerts in the church will enjoy a particular benefit.”
The Friends of St Wulfram’s hopes to extend the new lighting along the aisles and Lady Chapel once further funding is found.
