Miss Joan Evelyn Hodgkin, of Alexandra Road, Grantham, has died at the home of her sister, Edna. She was 88.

Born in Grantham, she was the eldest daughter of George Henry (Harry) and Elsie Louise Hodgkin.

She was sister to Dennis Hodgkin and Edna Denny, aunt to James and David Hodgkin and Lynn Bass and Sara White.

Miss Hodgkin left school at the age of 14 and started work for the Co-operative milk delivery service. In 1941 she went to work at Liptons on the High Street and remained there for 40 years until it closed. She then worked at Catlin’s wine shop for 10 years prior to her retirement.

Her interests included old time dancing, holidays abroad, reading and watching sport on television. She was very knowledgeable about wine and advised many people.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Deacon Lois Bell.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.

Donations were received for Skillington Methodist Church and St Barnabas Hospice, Grantham.
