Mr Alfred William Adams (Sqn Ldr, RAF Ret’d), of Woolsthorpe Road, Colsterworth, has died in Lincoln County Hospital. He was 94.

Born in Stonepits, Corby Glen in August 1919, he was one of non-identical twins in a family of 13. His eldest sister died aged 102. His twin, Charles (Smiler), was killed in Khartoum in 1942.

After leaving the King’s School in 1935 he became an apprentice at RAF Cranwell. He was in North Africa from 1939 to 1943 and served in the Royal Air Force until 1975. He worked mainly on guided missile technology.

After his retirement he became churchwarden at Colsterworth, a role he carried out for 23 years.

His other interests included archaeology, local and family history, and gardening.

The funeral service was held at St John the Baptist Church, Colsterworth, conducted by the Rev Eric Lomax. Burial followed in Colsterworth cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.

Donations for the RAF Benevolent Fund and the RAF Association amount to £224.65 to date.
