Mr Allan John Mears (known as John), of Gloucester Road, Grantham, has died in Lincoln County Hospital. He was 64.

He was born in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, but grew up with his sisters in Toton.

Mr Mears and his family enjoyed holidays in Sutton-on-Sea, a place which played a big part in their lives when his parents decided to live there.

After leaving school he became an apprentice joiner at Hofton, a builders in Beeston. After qualifying he continued to study and became a building inspector working for Broxtowe Borough Council.

He moved to Grantham to work for South Kesteven District Council, rising to building control manager. He carried on with his studies and spent some time teaching, before setting up his own business as a chartered surveyor and building engineer.

He married Tricia Edwards on July 15, 1988 in Grantham and they had 14 very happy years together until her death.

Mr Mears became stepdad to Nat and in 2002, grandpa to Lewis, followed by Evie in 2005.

He and Tricia enjoyed holidaying in Porta Pollensa, and Mr Mears decided they should learn Spanish so they could converse in the restaurants.

He enjoyed listening to an eclectic mix of music and espcially enjoyed Motown and soul.

Mr Mears always enjoyed a joke and he was always amusing his family with imitations of David Bellamy, Tommy Cooper and Michael Crawford, to name a few.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Robert Holland.

Harwood, Ellis Cray, and Jean Chandler.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.

Donations were received for Cancer Research UK.
