Mr Christopher Arthur Butcher, of Wheatsheaf Lane, Long Bennington, has died at home. He was 70.
He was born in Edale, Derbyshire, where he spent the first six years of his life before moving to Mansfield.
During the school summer holidays he would return to Edale to meet up with his cousins.
Mr Butcher was married to Margaret for 47 years. He was a loving husband and devoted father to Peter and Robert and devoted grandfather to Jessica (6), Emily (3) and Bethany (21 months).
He served in the Royal Air Force for 11 years as an airframe fitter, attaining the rank of Corporal.
After leaving the RAF he worked as a domestic appliance service engineer, working for Bendix, Tricity Bendix and Electrolux.
Mr Butcher retired on three separate occasions, working part-time at Pratt and Gelsthorpe in Newark and latterly at 2CQR in Long Bennington.
He was interested in aeroplanes, his favourite being the Dakota. He rebuilt a Flying Flea at East Kirby. Other interests included folk music, live theatre at Cambridge and Scarborough, particularly the plays of Alan Ayckbourn and John Godber. He enjoyed holidays in Menorca and short breaks to European cities.
He started writing a wartime murder mystery novel but constantly killed off the principal characters.
Mr Butcher was a member of the Lincolnshire Aviation Society.
Robert Holland conducted the funeral service at Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
