Mr Clement Vale, of Gloucester Road, Grantham, has died in Grantham Hospital. He was 88.

Born in Grantham, he was the fourth child of Victor and Gertrude Vale. He had two brothers Vic and Horace and a sister Chris. Mr Vale lived in Grantham all his life.

He leaves his wife Betsy, sons David and Paul, daughter Trish, daughter-in-law Virginia, grandchildren Beth and Jeanna, Dean, Michael, and Fiona and great-grandchildren William, Bailey, Daniel, Luke, Phoebe, Abigail, Diane, Gary and Simon.

Mr Vale left school aged 14 and started work at BMARC, taking a joinery apprenticeship with his father Vic. He remained with the company until he took early retirement due to ill health after completing 46 years’ continuous service.

In 1946 he met Betsy Gay, who had gone to work in munitions in 1941. They were married in 1947 and this year celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Mr Vale enjoyed his work very much, enjoying too the company of his workmates, making lifelong friends.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, because then he had more time.

In his earlier days he had played cricket for BMARC’s team. He also played bowls, darts and whist. Later he played golf at Stoke Rochford.

His interests were gardening, DIY and touring Britain with his caravan. He later spent time at a caravan in Skegness.

The funeral service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Robert Holland,

Family mourners included: Betsy Vale, David Vale, Paul and Virginia Vale, Beth Barnes, Jenna and Dean Brookes, William Barnes, Bailey Hibbitt, Michael Johnman, Dianne Vale, Terry and Alison Vale, John Gay, Carol Brooks, Paula and Tony Dunkley, Roy Gay, Janet Exton, Chris Griggs, Virginia Taylor, Kathleen Barnes, Mavis and Neil Pegram, Gary Boothby and Simon Hibbitt. His daughter Trish was unable to attend owing to illness.

Other mourners included: John and Andrea Bradley, Judy Pearson, Pam Thomas, Doreen Parkinson, Geo Defusto, David and Mary Woods, Philip and Eileen Ward, Helen Tiernan, Ray and Jennifer Froggatt, Roy and Sandra Penfield, Sue Whiting, Sadri Arab, Sue Savage, Brendan McKeogh, Roger Wakerley, Brian Coulson, Brian Morley, Mitch Wesley, Doug and Mary Carthew, Len and Joan Marriot, Kenny and Ruth Bryan, Terry Palethorpe, Rod Parker, Pat Wright, Ciaran McCool, John and Kathy Rose. His friend Gordon Rodway was unable to attend owing to illness.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.
