Mr Glyn Mitchell, of North Witham, has died at home. He was 76.

Born in Denton, he was the elder son of the late Roger and Evelyn Mitchell, who had the village bakery.

He has a brother, Roger.

Mr Mitchell met Mary Spencer and they were married in 1963. They lived at Mill Farm, Colsterworth.

They had twin sons, Andrew and David and the family later moved to North Witham.

His wife predeceased him in 2012.

Mr Mitchell attended Denton village school, moving later to The National School in Grantham.

He developed an interest in motor vehicles and at the age of 15 he started work for Arthur Allen at his Buckminster garage.

At 18 he went into the Army and served in Minden, Germany, where his love of large vehicles and engines developed.

Later he worked at Empire Garage in Grantham, then went to work for David Bingham in Colsterworth.

Mr Mitchell and his wife went into partnership with Albert Dawson and Dawson and Mitchell was formed and operated from the Fox Garage on the A1. The couple’s sons worked for them. Later they moved to the Ram Jam Garage on the A1 at Stretton.

Mr Mitchell retired in 2007 and was devoted to Mary. He cared for her and looked after the home until her death.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Thomas, Eloise and Jamie.

He was also fond of the family dogs and his garden, where he enjoyed watching the wildlife and feeding the birds.

Mr Mitchell enjoyed holidays at the family caravan in Ingoldmells.

He had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and will be remembered for his hospitality and generosity.

The service was held at Grantham Crematorium Chapel, conducted by Robert Holland.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine’s Road, Grantham.

Donations were received for Marie Curie Cancer Care and St Barnabas Hospice, Stamford.
