Mr Jack Albert Holmes, has died at home. He was 91.
Mr Holmes was born in Marston, where his father was the village baker.
The family moved to Long Bennington, where he attended the village school until the age of 14. During this time he was a member of the church choir and an altar boy.
After school he attended Newark Technical College, to study engineering, and began an apprenticeship at Worthington Simpsons, where he worked for 42 years. He started on the factory floor and rose to production engineer.
While at Worthington Simpsons he met his future wife, Beryl.
He and Beryl went on to have two daughters, Christine and Deborah, followed by two grandchildren, Emma and Matthew.
Mr Holmes was a true country lad. He loved sport, especially cricket and football.
He was always there for his family and he enjoyed spending holidays with his grandchildren.
His other interests included classical music, dancing and reading.
The funeral service was held at St Swithun’s Church, Long Bennington, conducted by the Rev Harriet Orridge. Cremation followed in Grantham.

Funeral arrangements were by William Roberts and Sons, Devon Lane, Bottesford.
