Mrs Kathleen Pacey (Kate), of Rutland Flats, Bottesford, has died, aged 78.

She was born Kathleen Swain, in Addlestone, Surrey, in October 1934.

She spent her early career as a nurse, winning the Nurse of the Year award at Guy’s Hospital in London. She continued as a medical nurse in the Womens Royal Army Corps, based in Hounslow, West London, where she met Roger Pacey, from Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir, who was in the Army based there.

They married in December 1953 and moved back to Woolsthorpe to make their home. They had five children, Michael, Sharon, Andrew, Nigel and Nick, 18 grandchidlren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs Pacey had many jobs and spent the later years of her working life employed by The Duke of Rutland.

In recent years she became aware of a family who had three boys who all had a terminal illness called ALD. She asked the vicar of Bottesford Church if her son, Nick, could hold a gospel concert in the church in aid of the charity. This led to a series of concerts in many churches and ended with a final concert in front of 900 people in Canterbury Cathedral. The concerts raised thousands of pounds for the charity in aid of the boys.

Mrs Pacey’s ultimate passion was her family, who will all miss her humour, compassion and limitless love shown to them.

The funeral service was conducted by the Rev Stuart Foster, chaplain to the Duke of Rutland, and began in the chapel at Belvoir Castle, before moving to Bottesford Church. Burial followed in Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir.
