Mrs Marjorie Mary Strychar, of Sproxton, has died in Peterborough City Hospital. She was 87.

Born at Hillside Cottage, Sproxton, she was the daughter of Jesse and Florence Creasey and one of 10 children. The family then moved to 1 School Hill in 1941.

In 1958 she married Bodhan Strychar (Alec). Mr Strychar predeceased his wife in 1998, aged 71.

Mrs Strychar has four children, Hilda Townsend, Barry Creasey, Susan Barker and Stephen Strychar. She also leaves six grandchildren, Rodney Townsend, Sarah Palmer-Skelton, Tristan, Ben and Laura Creasey and Samuel Barker and eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Charlie and Harry Townsend, Mitchel and Sophie Palmer, Dylan, Arthur and Harrison Creasey.

She was very much a part of village life and enjoyed her involvement with May Days, garden fetes and the WI. She took part in the many concerts and pantomimes at the village school.

Mrs Strychar enjoyed many holidays with Hilda and John, visiting Cornwall, the Lake District, Carlisle, Scotland, Robin Hood Bay, Banburgh and the Isle of Wight until her failing health prevented this.

Her interests were mainly her family, knitting, crosswords, TV and reading.

The Rev Rowena Bass conducted the funeral service at St Bartholomew’s Church, Sproxton. Burial followed in the churchyard.

Burke, Rachel Brown, Nigel Baker, Pat Creasey, and Kelvin Creasey.

Other mourners included: Judy Haylock, Mr and Mrs J. Coleman, Bob Kelly, Mrs L. Sadio, Mr B. Johnson, Mrs L. Clark, Mr B. Haynes, Stanley Birch, Daphne Birch, Sandra Herbert, Mr and Mrs N. Herbert, Mrs M. Hedworth, Mr N. Duffin, Mr A. Sands, Mr M. Barker, Mr and Mrs M. Graham, Mr and Mrs D. Orme, Gill Coleman, Miss S. Coleman, Mary Copley, Mrs S. Creasey, John Rayson, Miss L. Cheney, Mrs M. Smith, Mrs P. Jessop, and Mrs H. Hazard.

Funeral arrangements were by Geesons, Westgate, Grantham.

Donations for Sproxton Church and the village hall amount to £260 to date.
