The service of thanksgiving for the life of Muriel Clayton, of Coronation Road, Corby Glen, took place at St John’s the Evangelist Church, Corby Glen, the Rev David Creasey officiating. The organist was Stephen Webb.

Muriel passed away at Peterborough Hospital, aged 85 years. She was born at Askern, South Yorkshire to Alice and Harold Kelly.

Her early life was spent at the Railway Hotel, Askern, together with her brother Harold. In her teens she worked in a local pharmacy and eventually trained as a hairdresser.

She met Eric (deceased) during the Second World War while he was serving in the RAF.

They married in 1947 and moved to Lincolnshire, setting up home in the prefabs at Colsterworth. They had four children, Jaqueline, Larry, Terry and Kevin before moving to Coronation Road, Corby Glen.

Muriel had a wide range of interests.

She was a talented knitter, played the piano and enjoyed ballroom dancing. She was also a keen gardener.

She drove a 41 seater bus and transported children to school, all the while continuing her hairdressing in the village.

She also delivered the post in and around Burton-le-Coggles. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by E Walsingham & Son Funeral Directors, Church Street, Corby Glen.

Donations collected to date for the Corby Glen Responders amount to £331.
