I would like to thank Dr Leon Roberts and the ambulance crew who recently attended my house, where my 93-year-old friend had fallen downstairs.
Dr Roberts arrived less than four minutes after our 999 call, and was calm, efficient and sympathetic and could not have done more.
My friend was taken to Peterborough City Hospital, where the emergency facilities included surgeons, anaesthetists and nursing staff, all available for immediate action in the middle of the night.
Sadly, and despite their best efforts, my friend died the next morning, on his 94th birthday. Nevertheless, it is at times like this that we appreciate what a superb health service we have in this civilised country.
Dr Roberts is one of the volunteer doctors with the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS), which supports the ambulance service and is a charity which relies on donations and is well worth supporting.
On behalf of my friend’s family, and my own, our sincere thanks to everyone concerned.
