VILLAGERS in Sproxton are planning their biggest and best gala day ever this Bank Holiday Monday.
The event, now in its 14th year, begins with a duck race on the River Eye at Coston Road at 11.45am. The gala will continue, with a huge range of fun events, on the village cricket field throughout the afternoon.
New attractions include children’s races at 3pm, a scarecrow competition and an owl sanctuary display.
There’s a fun dog show at 2.15pm and an auction of donations takes place at 3.30pm. By popular demand, there will be live music from Irish duo Govannen.
Proceeds from the event will be split between the church, village hall and cricket club, and gate donations will go to Dove Cottage Hospice at Stathern and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.
