Parish survey reveals great community spirit in Barrowby

INITIAL results from the parish survey carried out Barrowby’s Community-Led Planning Steering Group have been published.

The survey has revealed that Barrowby has a strong sense of village identity, community spirit and village sociability.

The survey was completed by 67 per cent of the households in the village, which is one of the highest response rates in the county.

Nearly three-quarters of the results have now been analysed and initial results offer insights into what people in the village would like to see happen next.

Initial results show:

l 90 per cent of parishioners would like to remain separate from Grantham

l 64 per cent would like to see an Annual Festival or Gala in the village

l 59 per cent would support a village Pantomime

l 75 per cent would like to see a quarterly village newsletter

l 85 per cent support Barrowby’s entry into the Best Kept Village competition.

Steering group chairman Jo Witham said: “Barrowby’s response has been fantastic.

“Not only have we had a great response to the questionnaire but a number of villagers and members of the parish have indicated that they are willing to help those less fortunate than themselves, through visiting the sick, the elderly and the lonely as well as offering practical support. And we are seeing wonderful ideas for improving the social life of our village, from IT classes to dancing to language classes and crafts. We would like to thank everyone for their time and effort in completing the survey.”
