THE chairman of the Grantham Hospital Defence Committee, Ian Mihill, who is also on the board for Shaping Health for Mid Kesteven, does not believe there are any plans to ‘downgrade’ A&E services at Grantham.
He said: “We are close to getting final proposals of what this is all going to look like, and I haven’t seen anything at all that suggests to me that Grantham Hospital A&E is going to be downgraded.”
Mr Mihill got involved in the defence committee in 2005 after plans were announced to make cuts to the services at Grantham.
He said: “I started all this to protect the hospital. I’m now on the committee, I’ve got all the papers and I go to all the meetings.”
Mr Mihill wants to encourage more people to use the services at Grantham as that is a way to ensure their future.
He said: “A third of everything that can happen at Grantham Hospital happens somewhere else. If Grantham really wants its hospital, people should use it. A lot of people still go elsewhere.”
Mr Mihill added that he does not think what happened at Newark will happen at Grantham.
He said: “The closure of their A&E has put more demand on what we do at Grantham, not less.”
