Upside down window displays and apples everywhere could be how Grantham businesses celebrate being part of next month’s Gravity Fields Festival.
Town businesses are being encouraged to get into the festival mood with a Gravity Fields window dressing competition – and a top prize of a computer tablet is up for grabs.
All businesses have to do is dress their window to mirror the festival themes gravity, arts, science or heritage. They might consider turning the clock back to how their shop window might have looked in the 17th Century or adapt an ‘apples-through-the-ages’ theme to pick up on Newton’s most iconic symbol, suggests festival organiser South Kesteven District Council.
Upside down windows might reflect Newton’s gravity findings, innovative use of light would reflect his findings on refracted colour or a display of the universe and stars would pick up on his astral observations.
It’s all part of dressing the town in the run up and during the festival (September 24-28) and SKDC is encouraging businesses to register their interest by September 12 with windows ready for judging to start on September 15.
Other prizes include two festival tickets of the runner-up’s choice (subject to availability) and a third prize of one-to-one social media training.
The competition will be judged by Councillor Frances Cartwright, SKDC portfolio holder for grow the economy, Aimee Holland, managing director at Grow My Profit, and Stuart Pigram, chairman of Grantham Business Club.
Coun Cartwright said: “This is a great way to bring out your creative talent and a way to get our local businesses involved in the festival. I’d also like to encourage businesses to keep their windows dressed until the end of the festival.”
Simon Oates, deputy chairman of Grantham Business Club, said: “It is a great opportunity for businesses to take part in such a popular community event and it makes locals and visitors to the town more aware of the great businesses we have here in Grantham.”
Anyone wishing to register their business window for the competition can contact Amber Kitching on 01476 406080 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
