THE Taxpayers’ Alliance held an action day in Grantham last Saturday to oppose the Government’s planned 3p per litre increase in fuel duty.
Alliance national grassroots co-ordinator Andrew Allison said: “It went well under the circumstances, we collected over 100 signatures before the rain started to get really heavy and ruin the petition papers.
“It is important that drivers deliver a clear message to George Osborne that enough is enough. Motorists already pay a record amount to fill up the tank and the highest fuel taxes in Europe aren’t helping.”
The Alliance chose Grantham after research revealed that drivers here pay the equivalent of £440.87 per person in what they call excessive motoring taxes. This is more than any other area of Lincolnshire.
Activists are planning more action before the increase in August. For more information: http://tinyurl.com/bnmtxf2
