Jack and Val Odell organised a successful poppy picnic in aid of the Royal British Legion.

Plenty of tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes were enjoyed on the day, even if bad weather meant it had to be an indoor picnic at their Croft Drive home.

A total of £175 was raised from a raffle, teddy bear sale and ‘Guess the Elephants’ name’ competition which was won by poppy appeal organiser Grace Knightall.

Val Odell said: “Thanks to all who helped and who came, and those who couldn’t but sent donations. It was a good day for all concerned.”

“We wanted to help the British Legion, especially after the recent poppy desecration at the memorial,” added Jack Odell.
