The Richard III society’s Lincolnshire branch presented its bi-annual history prize to Walton Girls’ High School and Sixth Form.
Society members Jean Townsend and chairman Richard Wheeldon attended an assembly to present a cheque and book to sixth form head girl Eloise Sinclair, who also received an individual award.
Mrs Townsend and Mr Wheeldon were delighted to learn that Eloise has recently received offers to study History at university from September, including an offer from Cambridge University.
During their visit, they visited the History faculty and chatted with students and staff before taking part in a Year 10 History class.
Principal Christine Horrocks said: “We were so pleased to receive the nomination from the Society and I’m sure with the recent news interest in the discovery of the King’s remains fairly locally in Leicester, the students are all aware of how historical events can suddenly become relevant current issues.
“The History Faculty will certainly put the prize to good use within the department so all students can benefit.”
