AUTHOR and village pub landlord Eamonn Loughran has released his second book in what is proving to be a busy and prolific year.
Eamonn, who runs the Castle Inn in Castle Bytham with his partner, released “Secret Symbols of the Hell Fire Club” earlier this year.
The book was well received and the success gave Eamonn the impetus to release a second, this time a short work titled “The Spirit of Magic”.
Authors find their inspiration from all manner of place but. The Spirit of Magic owes its existence on a trip to Brussels.
Eamonn explained: “I was invited ot Brussels a few weeks ago to give a talk on any subject. It’s a bit of a hobby of mine giving these kind of talks.
“I thought about what it could be about and started to research about a French philsopher called Eliphas Levi who was invited to England.”
During his time here Eliphas saw a spirit of Apollonius and wrote a book on his experience called “Dogma and Ritual of High Magic”, which Eamonn describes as “one of the most equisitely written books” ever.
Eamonn researched into the life of Apollonius and this formed the basis of his talk in Brussels.
Eamonn said: “When I got back I was contacted by people who really wanted to be at the talk but couldn’t make it so asked if they could get a copy of the speech.
“That’s where the idea of turning it into a book came from.”
The book first appeared on Amazon’s website last week and already orders have been coming in. Eamonn plans to continue writing, with a book on Egyptian religion beckoning.
Eamonn said: “When the pub allows me, I will sit back and write that up.”
The book is also available in Grantham at Seven of Wands in Guildhall Court, off Guildhall Street.
