A BOTTESFORD man will raise thousands of pounds for charity when he walks the Great Wall of China next year.

Steve Dewar will be part of a 30-strong group from insurance company BGL group heading to China in the hope of raising a combined £105,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Steve said: “The walk consists of an eight day trip starting in Beijing, including a five day camping trek along some of the steepest and most rugged parts of the wall that tourists don’t usually get to experience.

“To raise the money I have been organising coffee mornings, cake sales, book sales, jumble sales, tombolas and I’ve also been holding regular car boot sales.

“Friends, family, neighbours and colleagues have been really supportive.”

Steve has also taken part in the Viking Challenge 50k off-road bike ride and has other fund-raising ideas in the pipeline before he heads off to China in April.

He initially has set himself a personal target of raising £3,500.

Steve said: “As soon as my company invited applications for trek places I just had to apply.

“It was just an opportunity that was too good to miss and a challenge that I’m completely up for!.”
