A DELUGE of water hit Grantham on Wednesday afternoon - with some streets enduring more than others.

Brenda-Jean Dawson was not surprised to see her home street of Derwent Road, Grantham, flooded out during the rain.

Derwent Road struggled to cope with the deluge.

Derwent Road struggled to cope with the deluge.

She said: “I’ve lived here for 11 years and every year it happens once or twice but nothing is done about it.

“Whenever there is a real downpour like there was on Wednesday, the whole street gets flooded.”

Brenda-Jean is used to seeing her street flooded but she said this week’s downpour was the worst she can remember.

She said: “I parked my car up on my raised drive and the water came up to the back wheels. There was a little black sports car parked up and the water went right up above the bottom of the car doors so they must have got their car wet through. It was horrific.”

Brenda-Jean believes the drains in the area can’t cope with the water and it all ends up converging in Derwent Road.

She said: “Something needs to be done because it will happen again. The mess left behind is like nobody’s business.”
