ADVENTUROUS and charitable types are being sought to take part in a mountain challenge for Cancer Research UK.
Ian Martin, 43, of Burns Close, Grantham, is getting together a team of 20 people to trek up Ben Nevis with the aim of raising in excess of £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Ian decided to set up the challenge after losing friends and family to cancer.
He said: “Just before Christmas I lost a very good friend after a two-year battle with cancer. Within three weeks of that we lost our next door neighbour, who was a good friend, to cancer and then we lost my girlfriend’s mother to cancer as well.
“But when you stop to think about it, I’m sure everybody has lost family or friends to cancer at some point or been affected by it.
“There is so little funding and that is what has spurred me on to do this.”
Ian has already got around half of his planned team of ten signed up and is looking for more volunteers.
The mountain walk is a 4,388 foot ascent up a five-mile loose path.
The team will travel to Glen Nevis touring park on July 29 and set off the following morning on the all day trek.
Ian said: “We are looking for adventurous types and anyone keen to raise money for the charity.
“We will be going up the tourist path, a well established path, but it will still be strenuous.”
Anyone interested in taking part in the Ben Nevis Challenge can call Ian on 07725218432.
Equipment needed will include camping equipment, hiking boots, a rucksack, hydration and energy food and a good level of fitness.
