Four months after they were destroyed by an out-of-control truck, railings along a pavement by the Asda roundabout have not been repaired.
The metal barriers on the junction of Sankt Augustin Way and Barrowby Road were crumpled by the lorry late one evening in July. It then ploughed into a lamppost further along Barrowby Road. Police were called, no arrests were made. Lincolnshire County Council’s area highways manager Mark Heaton has explained the reason for the delay in repairs. He said: “The guide rails helped guide pedestrians to an appropriate crossing point but their structure didn’t offer any protection from the road.
“We are planning to replace them with cast-iron bollards which will be more aesthetically-pleasing as well as easier and less expensive to maintain.
“These bollards are currently being made and we will schedule the repairs as soon as possible.”
