TRAFFIC in the centre of town is backing up this afternoon after problems getting two lorries carrying large loads under Harlaxton Road bridge.

The lorries were being slowly guided under the bridge at around 2.40pm today (Jan 24) when the first lorry struck the underside of the bridge, leaving a gauge in the already scarred brickwork.

Twenty minutes later the problem is still holding up traffic in all directions with many motorists on Harlaxton Road opting to make a U-turn to find an alternative route - no doubt increasing traffic on other routes such as Springfield Road and Dysart Road.
