Police have today named the 51-year-old Grantham man who lost his life in a head-on crash on Saturday as Brian Elrick.

The collision happened on the A52 at Sedgebrook. A black KTM motorcycle ridden by Mr Elrick was involved in a head-on collision with green Ford Focus estate driven by a 45-year-old man from Carlton, Nottinghamshire. A blue Toyota Verso driven by a Grantham man was also involved but was not damaged.

Mr Elrick died at the scene. The four people in the Ford were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with non-life threatening injuries.

The collision was reported to police just before 8pm. The road was closed until 1.30am on Sunday morning while police investigators carried out their enquiries and the vehicles were recovered.

Police are appealing for witnesses who either saw the crash or any of the vehicles involved being driven along prior to it. They are keen to speak to several potential witnesses who helped out at the scene but left without their details being recorded. One in particular was an off-duty nurse who tried to treat the deceased.

Anyone with any information should call the force control-room via the 101 non-emergency number or the collision witness hotline on 01522 558855. It would be helpful if they could quote incident number 434 of September 13.
