A man has suffered serious injuries in a collision between a lorry and several other vehicles on the A1 near Newark.
The northbound carriageway remains closed but is expected to re-open later this evening, at around 8pm.
The southbound carriageway has re-opened.
All emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene of the crash, which happened just before 8am this morning (Thursday) on the northbound carriageway.
Initially reported to be between a lorry and a car, it is now believed that a van and a further lorry and two cars were also involved.
A man was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and has been taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.
Both carriageways of the A1 were closed for much of the morning, between the Beckingham Road and A46 junctions.
Northbound traffic is being diverted off the A1 on to Beckingham Road to travel eastbound towards Coddington. At Coddington, motorists are told to take the A17 northbound and re-join the A1 at the junction with the A46.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to get in touch on the non-emergency 101 number.
