SIX Grantham fund-raisers have successfully completed a sponsored walk along Hadrian’s wall, finishing the 84-mile trek in just six days.

Following the success of the walk, the group now plans to complete a sponsored event each year.

The walkers - Dom Manley, Luke Higgins, Jacqueline McLean, Rebecca Marshall, Tom Fairbrother and Chris Lord - are raising money for cancer research UK.

They started the walk from Bowness-on-Solway, Cumbria, on Sunday, July 24, finishing six days later on Friday in Wallsend, Newcastle.

They carried everything they needed for their trip on their backs, including tents, and camped, cooked and cleaned along the way.

Jacqueline said: “We chose to raise money for cancer research because a few of us have lost family members to the illness, so it seemed the right thing to do.

“Thankfully the weather was lovely, the tents were fine and we had no problems along the walk.

“We hope to organise fund-raisers every year, but we don’t know what our next one will be yet.”

The group is hoping to raise £1,000, and so far they have reached £800.
