GRANTHAM has been unsuccessful in its bid to become a ‘Portas Pilot’.
The second, and final, tranche of towns to be given a helping hand by retail guru Mary Portas were announced on Wednesday, and our market town was not one of them.
The 15 towns that will benefit from the £1.5 million funding to regenerate town centres are Ashford, Berwick, Braintree, Brighton, Hatfield, Royal Leamington Spa, Liverpool, the Waterloo area of central London, Forest Hill in south London, Tower Hamlets, Loughborough, Lowestoft, Morecambe, Rotherham and Tiverton.
Grantham was one of 371 towns to apply for funding following a report made by Mary Portas into the state of the country’s high streets.
Although not picked to be a ‘Portas Pilot’, Grantham, along with the others that applied and were not chosen, will get the chance to bid for money from a £5.5 million pot for individual projects.
