VETERANS from Grantham headed to St Wulfram’s on Sunday morning for a re-dedication ceremony for a Grantham war memorial.

The “Men of Grantham” memorial in the churchyard had been renovated and a new plaque added facing those walking into the church.

Malaya and Borneo veteran George Reeve of Portsmouth Close, Grantham, has spent the past three years working to ensure those who fought and died for their country are never forgotten.

He led the campaign to build the St Peter’s Hill memorial and pushed for the “Men of Grantham” memorial to be restored to its former glory.

George said: “It was a very nice ceremony - it went very well.

“The memorial was not looking its best before and some of the masonry was loose but now it has been repaired and it looks great.”

George applied to the district council to have the work carried out but, as well as getting the green light, councillors awarded him £2,500 to carry out the work.

The district council is responsible for the upkeep of the district’s war memorials.
